Celebrate Moncada Day!

On July 26th, 1953 the 26-year-old Fidel Castro led a group of young Cuban revolutionaries including Raúl Castro, Juan Almeida, Melba Hernández and Haydée Santamaría in an attack against the Moncada Army Barracks in Santiago de Cuba. This was their initial strike against the U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.

Although this attack was a military defeat for the young rebels, which took the lives of dozens of their fighters and led to the imprisonment of Fidel and many others, it is seen as the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. It was the July 26th Movement, named after this initial defeat, that led the Cuban Revolution to victory! This day has now become an important annual celebration in Cuba and around the world.

Cuba Within the Wider Latin American and Caribbean Region

Internationalist 360° on July 20, 2023

“Now, more than ever, it is important that we understanda within the context of developments within the Latin American, Caribbean and indeed world arena. Our solidarity work with and on behalf of Cuba must include giving a greater visibility to what’s happening in the region, especially to initiatives that are virtually invisible (intentionally so) within the mainstream media.”

President Díaz-Canel Holds Cuba’s Name High at CELAC-EU Summit

"Díaz-Canel arrived in Brussels after a very warm and successful visit to Portugal, where he received the keys to the city of Lisbon, and had high-level meetings, including with the president of that country, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Upon his arrival in Brussels on July 17, he was received with honors by the main leaders of the European Union."

Cuba Rejects Presence of U.S. Nuclear Submarine in the Guantanamo Bay

“The presence of a nuclear submarine there at this moment makes it imperative to wonder what is the military reason behind this action in this peaceful region of the world; what target is it aiming at and what is the strategic purpose it pursues.

It should be remembered that the 33 nations of the region are signatories of the Declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed in Havana in January of 2014.”
